Vacation Check-In Service Terms

The specifics of how our Vacation Check-In service works — home access, scope of care, payment, and what happens in an emergency.

How this relates to our Privacy Policy: Our Privacy Policy covers how we handle your personal information. This page covers something different — the terms of the Vacation Check-In service itself, including home access, payment, and pet care authorization. By booking a Vacation Check-In, you agree to both.

1. Scope of Service

Vacation Check-Ins are drop-in visits to your home while you're away — they are not overnight boarding, house-sitting, or continuous supervision. Even at our Twice a Day frequency, our team arrives, cares for your pets, and leaves. No one stays overnight in your home under this service.

Every visit includes a food and water check, a potty break (dogs) or litter scoop (cats), a departure photo confirming your home is secure, and a short visit report. Add-ons such as a full walk, medication administration, and mail/package/plant checks are available as selected at booking.

2. Meet-and-Greet & Home Access

Every new Vacation Check-In customer must complete a free, in-person meet-and-greet before their first booking. During this visit, we confirm your home access method (lockbox, hidden key, or door code), meet your pets, and walk through feeding, medication, and any special care instructions together.

Access information you provide (codes, key locations, alarm instructions) is used solely to perform your booked visits and is not shared outside our team.

3. Booking & Scheduling

Vacation Check-Ins are booked per trip, not as a recurring subscription. You choose a visit pattern (Once a Day, Twice a Day, Every Other Day, a Few Times This Week, or a Custom/Uneven Schedule) that best fits your pets' needs.

Custom or uneven schedules are estimated at booking and confirmed directly with you before your invoice is finalized, since these patterns can't be priced by formula alone.

We currently do not require advance booking beyond one day's notice, though earlier booking is always appreciated, especially around holidays.

4. Payment & Invoicing

Unlike our recurring monthly services, Vacation Check-Ins are billed as a single Square invoice covering your entire trip. Payment is due at the time your booking is confirmed — before your visits begin. This is not a subscription, and no further charges are made after your trip unless you request additional visits or add-ons.

Why upfront: Because this service involves home access over multiple days rather than a single yard visit, we require payment to confirm the booking rather than invoicing afterward.

5. Trip Changes & Extensions

If your trip runs longer than originally booked, let us know as soon as possible. If we're able to accommodate the additional visits, we will add them at your original per-visit rate — we do not increase your rate for an extension.

If your trip is cut short, contact us and we will work with you on any unused, already-invoiced visits on a case-by-case basis.

6. Cancellations & Refunds

We understand travel plans change. If you need to cancel a Vacation Check-In booking, contact us as soon as possible:

  • 72+ hours before your trip start date: full refund.
  • Within 72 hours of your trip start date: refund at our discretion, since visits may already be scheduled around your booking.
  • After visits have begun: completed visits are non-refundable; we will work with you on any remaining, unused visits.

7. Pet Care & Emergency Veterinary Authorization

By booking a Vacation Check-In, you authorize Dootyful Scoopers to make reasonable decisions regarding the immediate care and safety of your pet(s) while you are unreachable.

If we believe your pet needs urgent veterinary attention and are unable to reach you or your designated emergency contact after reasonable attempts, you authorize us to transport your pet to your preferred veterinarian, or the nearest available emergency veterinary clinic if your preferred provider is unavailable, and to authorize care up to a reasonable amount necessary to stabilize your pet. You agree to reimburse Dootyful Scoopers for any reasonable veterinary costs paid on your behalf in such circumstances.

You will always be our first call. This authorization exists only to prevent delay in a genuine emergency when you cannot be reached.

8. Additional & Low-Maintenance Pets

Low-maintenance pets such as fish, birds, hamsters, and reptiles may be added to any visit at no additional charge. This covers basic checks (feeding, water, habitat glance) and does not include specialized care such as tank water testing, equipment troubleshooting, or medical administration for these animals unless separately discussed and agreed upon.

9. Holiday Surcharge

A surcharge applies to visits falling within major holiday periods (currently: Easter weekend, Independence Day weekend, Thanksgiving week, and the Christmas–New Year's period), reflecting increased demand during these windows. The applicable surcharge, if any, is shown in your estimate before booking and reflected in your invoice.

10. Photos, Reports & Communication

Every visit includes a departure photo and a short visit report sent to the contact method you selected at booking. If we notice anything concerning — behavioral, health-related, or related to your home — we will contact you directly as soon as reasonably possible.

11. Limitation of Liability

Dootyful Scoopers will exercise reasonable care in performing Vacation Check-In visits. However, to the fullest extent permitted by law, Dootyful Scoopers is not liable for pre-existing health conditions of your pet(s), incidents outside our reasonable control, or damages arising from inaccurate or incomplete care instructions provided at booking or the meet-and-greet.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for our own gross negligence or willful misconduct.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Vacation Check-In service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
