By Dootyful Scoopers, Bonney Lake, WAUpdated October 20268 services scored ยท 7 categories
Full disclosure: we run Dootyful Scoopers, and we're one of the eight services on this list. Every score comes from each company's own published website, pricing, and terms, plus quotes we requested, as of October 2026. We didn't secretly hire anyone. Each category's weight and reasoning is spelled out below so you can reweigh it yourself. If you run one of these businesses and something here is out of date, email us and we'll correct it.
Poop scooping services look identical from the outside: someone shows up, the yard gets cleaned, you get a text. The differences show up in the fine print and the follow-through. Does the price you see match the invoice? Will anyone tell you if your dog's stool looks off? Is there proof the gate got latched? We scored every service on the same scale so you can see where each one is strong and where it's thin.

Communication & Visit Proof Yard Coverage & Standards

How We Score
Each service gets a 1 to 10 score in seven categories. We weight those categories by how much they affect your experience month after month, then roll them into an overall score out of 100. Price carries the most weight because it's the first thing everyone compares, and it counts first-visit fees and yard surcharges, not just the sticker price. Health monitoring, communication, and plan flexibility follow because they shape every single visit. Local presence counts for more than you might expect: a scooper based nearby keeps a dense route, shows up more reliably, and is the person you actually reach when something goes wrong.
Where a company doesn't list a feature publicly, we scored it as not offered rather than guessing. That can undersell a service that does more than its website says, so if one of these companies does something we missed, ask them directly.
Analysis by Category
Here's what each category covers and how every service scored, highest first.
Pricing & Transparency 25% of score
What we looked at
- Are full prices published before you sign up, or is a quote required?
- Flat monthly billing vs. per-visit billing that swings with 5-week months
- Initial cleanup, reset, or "lapsed service" fees
- Yard-size surcharges and the real cost of weekly service for one dog
Scores out of 10 Top: Dootyful Scoopers
Happy Tails Waste Removal
Three services publish real prices: us, Two Sisters, and Happy Tails. Two Sisters' weekly rate ($22 per visit for the first dog, about $95/mo) is a little lower than our $99 flat for one dog, and we'll say so plainly. The fine print narrows it: a $55 first cleanup, charged again if more than 21 days pass between scoops, and service listed only for lots up to a quarter acre. Happy Tails starts at $27 per weekly visit (about $117/mo), plus a required initial cleanup fee and $5 a week more if you want the front yard too. Poop 911 advertises weekly from $16.95 and a free first cleanup with recurring service. OhDoody lists weekly from $129/mo; the quote we received added $30/mo for lots between 1/8 and 1/4 acre. Swoop Scoop bills monthly from a $70/mo starting price, with the rest set by quote. Pet Butler and Scoopology are quote-only
Health Monitoring 15% of score
What we looked at
- A written observation after every visit, not just a "done" text
- Stool consistency notes and health flags worth a vet call
- A running history you can look back on months later
- Fecal sample retrieval when your vet asks for one
Scores out of 10 Top: Dootyful Scoopers
Happy Tails Waste Removal
This is the widest gap on the board. We send a written Dooty Report after every visit with stool consistency and a green, yellow, or red flag, and every report rolls into your Dooty Dashboard so you can see trends months later. Happy Tails earns a strong score here too: Sarah flags anything unusual directly and, like us, retrieves a fecal sample for free with 24 hours notice. Two Sisters mentions flagging issues informally. None of the other services list health observations at all.
Communication & Visit Proof 15% of score
What we looked at
- Notice before arrival (day-before, on-the-way, or both)
- A photo of your closed, latched gate after every visit
- Completion confirmation
- A direct line to the person who owns the business
Scores out of 10 Top: Happy Tails Waste Removal
Happy Tails Waste Removal
Happy Tails sets the bar: a text the day before with a 2-hour window, another 15 minutes out, and a locked-gate photo after. Two Sisters texts before arrival, confirms when done, sends a gate photo, and gets consistent praise for communication in reviews. We text the night before with a 2-hour arrival window, send a closed-gate photo and a Dooty Report after, and you're texting the owner directly. Swoop Scoop texts 60 minutes before arrival, emails when the job is done, and sends a gate photo. Poop 911 and OhDoody both send gate photos. Pet Butler does a gate knock and a notification, and Scoopology texts before arrival, but neither lists a gate photo.
Plan Flexibility 15% of score
What we looked at
- How many visit frequencies are offered
- Whether once-a-month and twice-a-week are options
- Contracts and cancellation terms
- Yard-size caps and dog-count limits on certain plans
Scores out of 10 Top: Dootyful Scoopers
Happy Tails Waste Removal
Swoop Scoop and Dootyful Scoopers tie at the top. Swoop Scoop offers twice a week, weekly, every other week, monthly, and one-time, with no contracts. We offer five recurring plans (twice a week, weekly, every other week, twice a month, and once a month) plus a One-Time Pickup, with no contracts and no yard-size tiers on standard residential lots. Scoopology and Pet Butler each offer three recurring options including twice-weekly or custom schedules. Two Sisters has weekly, bi-weekly, one-time, and seasonal. Happy Tails is weekly or every other week, with the EOW plan capped at two dogs. OhDoody is weekly or bi-weekly with a quarter-acre cap. Poop 911 is built around weekly service.
Yard Coverage & Standards 10% of score
What we looked at
- Front, side, and back yard included in the base price
- Equipment sanitized between yards
- A systematic scan pattern so nothing gets missed
- Deodorizer options
Scores out of 10 Top: OhDoody
Happy Tails Waste Removal
OhDoody wins this one on process: grid-pattern scanning, hospital-grade disinfectant, a 10-point safety check, and seasonal deodorizing included. We cover the front, side, and back yard at one price, disinfect between every yard, walk a grid, and offer Yard Freshen enzyme treatment as an add-on. Scoopology and Swoop Scoop both disinfect equipment, and Swoop Scoop offers deodorizing; Pet Butler offers odor elimination and deck spray. Happy Tails covers either the front or the back, with the front as a paid add-on.
Services Beyond the Yard 10% of score
What we looked at
- Commercial, HOA & apartment service (3 pts)
- Cat litter box cleaning (2 pts)
- Dog walking (2 pts)
- Pet sitting or vacation check-ins (2 pts)
- Pet waste station install & service (2 pts)
- Pet transport (1 pt), capped at 10
Scores out of 10 Top: Pet Butler
Happy Tails Waste Removal
We score this one with a fixed point system so it's easy to check: 3 points for commercial, HOA, or apartment service, 2 each for cat litter boxes, dog walking, pet sitting or vacation visits, and pet waste stations, and 1 for pet transport, capped at 10. Commercial work counts the most because it shows a company can run bigger contracts and higher volume. Pet Butler maxes it out: dog walking, pet sitting, cat litter boxes, commercial service, pet waste stations, and a pet shuttle nobody else here offers. We're next with cat litter box cleaning, dog walking, vacation check-ins, and commercial service. Two Sisters stands out among the waste-only companies with commercial and HOA service plus pet waste stations. Swoop Scoop, OhDoody, Scoopology, Poop 911, and Happy Tails all take commercial or multi-family work.
Local Presence 10% of score
What we looked at
- Based in Bonney Lake or right next door
- Independent owner vs. franchise territory
- Whether our area is a core market or one stop on a big map
Scores out of 10 Top: Dootyful Scoopers
Happy Tails Waste Removal
We're based in Bonney Lake. Two Sisters is in Buckley, right next door. Happy Tails runs from Auburn and OhDoody from Tacoma. Scoopology is a western Washington family business covering nine counties. Swoop Scoop is an independent company with locations from Seattle and Tacoma to Spokane; Bonney Lake sits at the edge of its Tacoma map. Pet Butler and Poop 911 are national franchises with local operators, which means pricing and policies are shaped by a corporate system.
5 Questions to Ask Any Scooper Before You Sign Up
- What will my actual monthly bill be?Per-visit pricing means 5-week months cost more. Ask for the monthly total for your dog count and yard size, including any extra dogs.
- Is there a first-visit, reset, or lapsed-service fee?Several services here charge one before recurring service starts, and at least one charges it again if you pause for a few weeks.
- Does yard size change the price, and is the front yard included?Quarter-acre caps, size-based quotes, and front-yard add-ons are all common. Know which one applies to your lot.
- What proof do I get after each visit?A closed-gate photo is quickly becoming standard. A written note on what they saw in the yard is rarer and more useful.
- Who do I text when something goes wrong? With a franchise you're usually reaching a local operator inside a corporate system. With an owner-operator you're reaching the person who can fix it.
The short version: If price is all that matters and you have one dog on a small yard, Two Sisters' per-visit rate is hard to beat. If you want the best communication and don't need more than weekly or every-other-week, look at Happy Tails. If you want to see what's going on with your dog's health over time, plus published flat pricing and the flexibility to go monthly or twice a week, that's what we built Dootyful Scoopers to do.
